BP1 Combat Awards

29TH INFANTRY DIVISION
116TH REGIMENT, 1ST BN
HEADQUARTERS DESK

Gentlemen of the 29th,

One of the highest honors that can fall on a platoon of the 29th is to represent it on the field of battle. BP1, first platoon, baker company met the 2nd SS on the field of battle. After many weeks of tough practice, the men of Baker Platoon 1 were deployed to the town of Wanne.

For the first round the 29th was tasked to defend the village against an onslaught from a very experienced opponent. With grit and determination, all the men held their ground and extracted a heavy price from the enemy as they attempted to move into position. Although the enemy was severely mauled, they still demonstrated they were a force to be reckoned with. The 2.SS pressed their assault home, capturing the Cafe and assaulting the buildings in the immediate vicinity. There were many fierce firefights and much close quarters combat but after a few minutes, just a single 2SS member was left, Unteroffizier Otto Furhmann. He redeployed using skill and guile, evading our search parties and scouts. When he eventually returned to the field of battle he eliminated the leadership of BP1, bringing his tally of kills to five, before succumbing to the greater numbers.

The second round saw BP1 on the assault, as they now had to breach the same town they so aptly defended. After careful maneuvering and artillery bombardment, they were in position. With smoke deployed by FSgt. Lev, the squads launched their assault. Squad 1 leaped into the iron teeth of the 2nd SS, but, due to mortar inaccuracies, covering smoke was not as optimal as expected. This exposed the advancing elements of S1 to enemy fire, leading to the loss of Sgt. Tran and Sgt. Clyde as they bit the bullet providing cover for their men to move onto their objectives. This let the surviving elements of Squad 1 rapidly secured their objectives, anchoring the north flank. Simultaneously, Squads 2 and 3 launched their assault from the West under cover of smoke. With the help of heavy bazooka bombardment, Squad 2 seized their objectives; Squad 3 was however deterred by stiff opposition as they moved to clear the western buildings. Many battles were fought on the western and southern flank of the map, but as the remaining forces of BP1 made their push towards the Chateau from the Cafe they were slowly eliminated. What would end up being the final push for BP1 saw the four remaining soldiers make a push for Chateau, eventually falling but taking down the majority of the defenders with them.

On this day, we celebrate our Fourth official scrim in Darkest Hour. Both sides acquitted themselves well, and the victories were hard won. While the end result was a tie, both BP1 and the 2SS fought hard and should both be congratulated for their fantastic match.

These victories are not only for those involved, but for the 29th Infantry Division as a whole. Baker Platoon One upheld reputation as a unit tonight and represented all of our past, present, and future members to the utmost of their capabilities. We are the Fighting 29th; not by blood or right, but by training and cooperation.

For your success this evening, I proudly award these medals for your courageous actions in battle. Well done gentlemen.

While BP1 fought the 2SS, these two sat on webadmin, tallying the kills and enforcing the rules. For thier actions, they both are being awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
